Would You Throw A Junk Food Wedding?

One of the biggest expenses of any wedding is, of course, the food. You have so many mouths to feed that costs can quickly spiral, which is why it’s completely understandable to try and keep the cost per head down as much as possible.

But what if we told you that there was a way in which you could feed your friends and family for far less, while reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill so you can do your bit for the environment as well?

We’re talking about junk food weddings, a concept that is currently gathering pace and growing in popularity for brides and grooms all over the world. In fact, here in the UK Manchester has just had its first ever junk food wedding, helped by The Real Junk Food Project.

Couple Nikki Pope and Cate Bauer used ingredients and products for their wedding breakfast that were going to be chucked in supermarket waste disposal bins – although they didn’t let their 110 guests in on the secret until after the meal was finished, according to the Manchester Evening News. The Real Junk Food Project aims to cut waste food and salvage what other people have thrown away.

Chef Mary-Ellen McTague prepared the wedding feast, saying: “I was really surprised by how much food we’re losing every week to waste from supermarkets that was a real shocker to me. I didn’t realise it was so much.”

Doing this could really help you cut costs if you’re keen to stick to your budget. Make sure you also check out our blog so you can read about other ways in which you can cut costs and still have the wedding of your dreams.
