Cancer Bride Gets Honeymoon 3 Years After Wedding
At pretty much every wedding we film, the bride and groom are beaming with excitement on their wedding videos in Cheshire, not only because they’ve just married the partner of their dreams, but because they’ve also got a fantastic honeymoon they can look forward to. But this wasn’t the case for Polly Demetriou, 30, from Essex, as she had to postpone her honeymoon with husband Jon, 37, after she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma a year before their special day, the Daily Mail reports. The police officers rescheduled their dream holiday to Sri Lanka and the Maldives for a year after their 2012 wedding, so Polly could fully recover from her treatment. However, sadly, the cancer returned just three months after saying ‘I do’. Speaking to the newspaper, she said: “I was devastated, but all I could think of was I don’t want Jon to be a widow in his 30s. I didn’t want to die and leave him.” After receiving a stem cell transplant from her brother Garrath Williams, who flew from Australia for the procedure, Polly went on to regain her health. She was given the great news that she was in remission in January 2015, and finally just two months later Polly and Jon got to enjoy their trip of a lifetime, four years after her initial diagnosis. From Polly’s blog, the couple had a fantastic time, snorkelling with turtles, stingrays and sharks, and even spotting dolphins and manta rays! Filming weddings is such a privilege, as we get to be part of a couple’s special day, but especially when they’re as emotional and significant as Polly and Jon’s. It’s been a long journey, but we’re glad they finally got to enjoy the holiday of their dreams.
